What is IoT

Internet of things, an infrastructure that connects uniquely identifiable "things" to the internet.

The history of IoT

Pre-Internet

Before the advent of the internet, the most advanced means of communication were SMS and telephones.
Invention of smart networks, aka internet, was the solid foundation for a shift toward the era of connection.

Internet of Content

By using internet, we were able to share information in forms of digital content, websites and blogs. It was the creation of Platforms and Smart Services that enabled us to use these websites to streamline the service providing. Automated services emerged as a result.

Internet of Services

We were able to take advantage of e-commerce, e-productivity and such services. After technological advances, we reached a point where we could create smart, portable electronic devices: phones.

Internet of People

Everyone is a creator nowadays. Social media brought up a great opportunity for a collective, multi-faceted community of digital identities.

Internet of Things

This is the new trend. Where even objects could act as uniquely identifiable components of a bigger infrastructure. Where everything is connected and if it's not, it eventually will be

Things

Smart objects with embedded technology to either sense or act.
Devices(Communication + Power source + Low Cost Computer) that have Sensors or Actuators.

Networks

Where these devices can communicate

Platforms

  1. Data and information management
  2. Security
  3. Device management and process modeling
  4. Integration of information access mechanisms

Applications
